{Interview} Roni at All Wrapped Up

I’ve been very lucky recently, as I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the lovely Roni Hyslop at All Wrapped Up Events Management over everything from coffees, phone calls, wedding shows and photoshoots.

Roni is, in a word, fab! Not only is she amazingly good at her job, she has the personality and creative flair to bring vision to every wedding she plans – and all with a smile! I love having a good chat with Roni, as I know I’ll be grinning by the end of it. Here’s a bit more about her and All Wrapped Up…

Tell us a bit about All Wrapped Up and how the business came into existence…
AWU came about while I was General Manager in my last hotel – I wanted to build up the wedding business in the hotel and so I played the role of wedding co-ordinator there, which I found to be an enjoyable but frustrating role! I loved working with the couples but found that I was limited in the assistance I could give them. All too often I would see them spending too much money on items for their wedding or heard stories of how they were being taken advantage of by suppliers! Likewise if something went wrong on the day – I wasn’t able to assist as I was stuck in the hotel! I decided I wanted to set up a company that helped couples no matter what their budget to achieve the wedding of their dreams. Helping them get the most out of their budget and recommending suppliers who were trustworthy and delivered good quality of service!

Where are you from originally and where are you based now?
I was born and raised in Edinburgh where AWU is based today, but thanks to my parents I have a good knowledge of Scotland, having spent much of my childhood in the South West where my father hails from and the Highlands on family holidays!

Who else do you work with?
AWU is very much my baby – however I work closely with many amazing suppliers – who are featured on the new website! I thought it important to have a ‘one stop shop’ of good suppliers on the site so that our visitors to the site can see who we recommend! This saves them time navigating around the net looking for other suppliers – it’s a popular tool especially with our overseas couples!

How far will you travel for a wedding?
We go where the couples ask us to go! We are so lucky in Scotland when it comes to wedding venues – we really are spoilt for choice!

What’s your favourite part about wedding planning?
I love it all – but most of all when I have built a relationship with the couple – and I share their happiness when the big day arrives and all the planning comes together! I tend to have a ‘proud mummy’ moment as I watch my girls in all their glory walk down the aisle to say “I Do”!!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to fight the baddies?
I think it would have to be the power to fight wind and rain on a wedding day! (laughing!) The weather is the ‘baddie’ in my work! It’s the only thing I can’t organise – just think if I could guarantee the weather – I’d be the best wedding planner ever!

How do you like to spend your days off?
Day off? What’s a day off?!! My days off are spent with my gorgeous wee girl Cait – who is just a big bundle of energy and a joy to be around!

Describe yourself in 3 words…
Focused, Fun, and Forty!

What’s your favourite book?
There are so many – I love books! But my all time favourite would be ‘Birdsong’ by Sebastian Faulks – the youth of today should read it, it may change their attitude to society!

And your favourite film?
‘Shawshank Redemption’! – You thought I was going to say the ‘Wedding Planner’ didn’t you!

Tell us something we might not know about you, not wedding-related…
What would you like to know…..I am the proud mummy of 9 year old Cait – who is a wedding planner in training! She’s a great apprentice! We enjoy our time off together eating out and spending time with friends – during our quiet moments you’ll find us both with our noses in books!

What’s in store for All Wrapped Up over the next 6 months?
The new website has now been launched! Very exciting! We will be introducing even more new suppliers & launching our online shop very soon! Lots of new products are in the pipeline!

Where can we find you online?
The website is www.allwrappedupscotland.co.uk and you can also follow us on twitter and on facebook…..all wrapped up events management ltd!

Where can we find you next in person? Any shows coming up?
We have booked to do the Ghullie Dhu wedding fair again in March and are hoping to appear at the Royal Scots Club and a few more next spring.
