Over the last couple of years I’ve been mixing up how I take photos by adding in a bit of whimsical magic.

In 2018 I started a personal concept photography project.
In early 2019 I realised that creating magical images was something I was head over heels in love with! I discovered that I could use Photoshop in a much more powerful way than I could ever have imagined. I moved from self-portraits to roping in my family and friends for some Photoshop fun, too.
In late 2019 I was asked to create some images for other people and from then to now, it’s grown into an amazingly fun and unique side to life here at Jen Owens Images.
I love family shoots. They’re so much fun and it’s wonderful knowing you’ll have a set of photos that’ll bring back happy memories for a very long time. With a family concept photo I hope to bring you a bit of magic like nothing else.

before after.jpg — So how does it work and what can I expect?

On your shoot I will take all the images I need to create the concept photo. I will mainly take into account the right angles and direction of light to be able to keep the final image consistent and realistic.
But I also want to see your personalities and I will most probably get you to pose in some very silly ways!
After the shoot I will bring all the photos I’ve taken into Photoshop to create your image.

concept family photography-11.jpg — How much does it cost?

Magical images are **£275** each
This includes:
• agreeing a concept of what you would like the photo to be beforehand via email
• around 30 minutes taking all the images I’ll need to create the image
• The final image at high resolution
Standard family shoots plus a magical image
**£500** - If you book a Magical image I’ll also include a lifestyle family shoot at a reduced price (usually £300).
In addition to the above, this also includes:
• 1-2 hours out and about somewhere fun with your family taking photos
• travel within Edinburgh and the Lothians
• the final images (min. 60) at print resolution in a downloadable gallery. This gallery is password-protected.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to produce my image?

All my concept images are different and take varying times to create. Generally each image is around 12+ hours’ work in Photoshop. I aim to have the photo to you in 2-3 weeks.

I have an idea for what I would like my image setting to be, is that ok?

Yes! It’s wonderful when an image reflects an interest or hobby.

Where will the photos be taken?

Ideally we will meet up outdoors somewhere convenient for you. Should the weather forecast be tricky we can discuss an indoor location.

Will I know what the image will look like before you send the final version?

Yes, I will sketch (see below!) a rough idea of the concept for you and we can discuss any changes you’d like at this stage.

Why will I only get one image from the shoot?

Each photo concept takes a fair amount of time to create and needs specific images of you from the shoot to be able to work. If you would like more than one image please do let me know and we can make sure to take images for that too.
